Community Portrait: Blue Lotus Temple

221 Dean Street. A place you may not have been yet but it makes you wonder, what goes on behind the doors of the Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple? We'll let you know, it's definitely worth checking out. With great work shops, amazing people within the temple, and more services then you knew they had, they do an awful lot and have a great time doing it.

“Our mission is to promote individual peace of mind, compassion for all beings, spiritual growth, and an ethical way of life based on Buddhist principles”

According to their Facebook: “The Blue Lotus Temple was founded in 2002 by a monk from Sri Lanka named Bhante Sujatha who has resided thoughout McHenry County, Illinois ever since. The Blue Lotus Temple focuses on ease of access for all and has a wide variety of services to assist those who know nothing about Buddhism or meditation. The Blue Lotus Temple is very active and has something going on somewhere almost every day.”

But what do they do in there you ask? Why, some of the most fascinating workshops you could ever want to be a part of! Healing sound immersion, monthly drum circles, introduction to reflexology, gong meditation, and sound healing just to name a few. Along with what we hear is going to be an awesome Thai dinner coming up as well.

“Blue Lotus is a nice temple that lets you in with welcoming arms.” Is one thing we've heard in the community. Others have made comments about the great workshops and beautiful spirit of the people within the temple.

With services such as: Wedding ceremonies and blessings, Birthday blessings, Birth rites and blessings. House blessings, Hospital visitations , Last rites, Family retreats, Youth retreats, One-on-one meditation sessions for beginners, and School programs it's no wonder they're such a beloved temple.

With so many workshops and services, Blue Lotus Temple is definitely a great place to spend your weekend or afternoon brushing up on skills or learning some new ones.

Please check out the Blue Lotus on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube for some awesome videos and their Website. Also if you enjoy their services please read this letter from Bhante Sujatha and feel free to Donate to the temple here.
